VR experience highlights why we have to care at upcoming boat shows

If you’ve never experienced the thrill of diving or snorkelling at the Poor Knights or the Aldermans you might not know why we are so worried about marine pests and the harm they can cause.

A Virtual Reality Experience will be delivered at Auckland’s two upcoming boat shows which hopes to open your eyes to the magic of our coastlines and the imminent danger posed by pests like exotic caulerpa and Mediterranean fanworm.

Delivered by the Blake NZ team and brought to the show by Clean Below? Good to Go, the experience will highlight the very best of marine life and experiences - and feature some invasive pests that threaten our ecosystems and way of life.

And all going well, once the session is over, you might be inspired to take extra care with your next antifoul application and clean your boat and gear even more thoroughly than before to prevent the spread of marine pests.

Look out for the experience at the Auckland Boat Show, 5-8 March 2026, and the Hutchwilco Boat Show, 14-17 May. Spaces are limited.
