Who are the friendly faces on Auckland boat ramps?

Six marine biosecurity outreach ambassadors have been busy keeping boat owners informed and updated about marine biosecurity in the Auckland region this summer for Auckland Council with financial support from the Ministry for Primary Industries. Auckland’s outreach programme has been running since the summer of 2018 with ambassadors moving around boat ramps, marinas and events across the region to talk about protecting our marine environment from marine pests.

This year they visited locations including Hobsonville Marina, the Outboard Boating Club and Kawakawa Bay and report that an increasing number of people are interested in marine biosecurity, and understanding not only the rules, but how they can help by understanding more about marine pests and also how they can spread - without us even knowing it -  on boat hulls and equipment. There has been a steady trend over the years demonstrating that people are learning more and taking action to play their part in preventing the spread of pests.

The ambassadors will continue to work through to May and would love you to stop and say hello with any questions.
